How far down on the engine rails do the mounts have to be to be strong? What is the best angle for the shaft log?

I try and set my engines flat on a piece of 1/8" lexan I have and just let it sit flat. Never measured the angle but doing it this way makes the angle as low as possible to reduce the friction in the tube.
