Someone can tell me if this lap counter is good for racing boats?
It's a good price / quality option?

Are you intending to use this by yourself or within a club?

The second system requires a bridge over the track for the receivers, you can build this bridge as long as you want but will need receivers about every 30cm. The South Africans use an IR system for race control.

Another alternative is the MyLaps system used within the Naviga organisation. This uses small transponders and an antenna strung over the race course. The transponders are relatively expensive as is the decoder .

Bear in mind that all of these are designed for model cars and it is working at the extremes of the systems when using them over water with boats.

I am intending to use it by myself, and some other friends. Maybee 4 or 5, but i want something that if we do a race with 10 or 12 it will be ok.
I think MyLaps is the best, but is to expensive.
IR range 4 is not to much, but enought ??
Thank you

I would say not. This would mean that all the boats would have to pass within 4 meters of where the receiver is placed. Can you get it right at the waters edge?

With 5 boats on the water the worst case scenario is 5 boats within 4 metres of the bank/jetty.. only 80cm each. With 12 boats just over 30cm each... A bit tight maybe.....
