Worn wrist pin?

I have just taken apart my 260 motor to see why my boat wasn't going fast enough for me. I discovered that the wrist pin has worn where the bearing sits. Should this happen? Is this a common problem? I bought the engine used and I am not familiar with them as this is my first gas boat.

No it is not typical. I would check the bearing for rust/wear. Also see if the bottom bearing seems in condition with no slack. Make sure the con rod is not bent. The motor may have ingested water at some time. This will wreak havoc in a motor. Sometimes you can actually feel the imprints of the bearings in the rods after a severe dunk. Could also be from improper storage of the engine. This could be a first, but I have never had one wear considerably from normal use. If everything checks out, a new wristpin and top bearing are relatively inexpensive to replace. Make sure to use new c-clips for the wristpin. JMO. BTW, how does the piston look? Any scrore marks from uneven wear?

When I eyeball the rod it looks ok and the bearings also - without taking it all apart.

I noticed a small scuffing on the magnets from the pick up coil which could be from loose bearings.

Maybe I should put all in a bag and send it to someone who knows these engines to check it over for me. I think there is a lot more hours on this motor that I understood.

You could send it to Carmen at NeedforspeedHobbies to have it check and refreshed if necessary. He is in Canada in NB. There is a link to his website on the main page of Modelgasboats.com. There are also others like Carlo at CC Racing and M&D if you want to ship it States side, but it will most likely cost you in customs clearance to get it back. There actually isn't all that much to these engines and if you simply want to rebuild it with stock parts it's easy enough. If it's a mod motor, then you probably want to send to a good engine builder like the ones just mentioned.

be glad you caught it before the meltdown i just lost a good jug cause of a simaller incedent didnt ketch it in time
