porting tools

Hi ,Has any one got any idea's on porting tools?
A dremal can do most things , but what about doing transfers on blind transfers. the dremal 90 deg looks to big ,has anyone tried one,or used it.
I picked up some dentist tools at a junk shop but have nothing to drive it.
I could attach pic if i knew how. cheers

I am a dentist, and the standard air driven handpieces are too small for gas engines. I use them for 3.5 nitro engines. I use a milling machine for all the critical cuts and blend with a Dremel using ball and pear shaped burs. Another good method is to make a slug that fits into the top of the cylinder. Set the length to the desired port height. That way you can grind the port height accurately by hand.

With the photo it's to big and i'm not sure how to reduce the size.
With the dentist tool its a NSK flex shaft driven and could use it to take up the transfer port on a stihl fs 86 motor i water cooled a few years back.It has blind transfers un like the zenoha open ports which would easier to do with a straight drive.Could also use it on a few chainsaws i've got.

Thanks Scott It's a good post on the zenoha porting .Its some thing like FS85 stihl porting before you started. Does it effect the idle when you take so much out of the transfers??

Idle quality is unaffected, With a decent carb and idle mixture is right, engines can idle threw a whole tank of fuel.

Hi Scott back on to porting,What do you use to smooth out those tranfers once you have finished with the t/c burrs?
I've got a dremal or 1/4 drive die grinder. cheers

** Key point is using SINGLE CUT or CHIP BREAKER style cutters **
They leave a VERY smooth finish and if used right require very little to no smoothing out after the fact.
