g230rc problem

My engine starts and idles fine and seems to rev up ok until it runs for a few minutes.
Then it looses power and stalls when you slowly accel either in the water or on the stand it looses power and stalls. It won't restart unless you choke it and then it starts and idles but as soon as you give it easy throttle it falls on it's face.
Seems like it's running out of fuel but it's not. Pulling the plug and grounding there seems to be no spark at first then you may get a weak spark you can barely see.
Right now I pulled the cylinder to check the rod for being bent screwing with the porting and timing but it looks staight to me. I also disassembled and cleaned the carb totally.

I'm using 87 octane, amsoil, iridium plug, fuel filter. It does this with any spark plug, doesn't change it.

Everything looks brand new, as I ran it very little, but it always ran like a bat out of hell until this last time. Then after running for about a half hour or so it started this loosing power and stalling off idle. Hard or no restart then does the stalling thing all over again even when the engine is not that hot.

I'm leading towards a defective coil assembly even though it looks brand new.
make sense? Is 87 octane hurting anything? It also spit little dots of oil all over the boat when revving.
Any recommendations?

Doubt it is a coil issue. Sound like a carb problem, either the low speed needle is TOO lean (back out @ 1/8 turn) or carb needs new diaphragms installed.

Worse case being that RC engines have 2 bolt cylinders, you have a loose cylinder / blown base gasket ... Worse yet if you dunked it while running hard. a warped cylinder. Intake manifolds can warp too ?
** Dead give away of an air leak would be a fairly large change in idle speed even tho you never changed it ?

cylinder bolts were tight and cylinder gasket wasn't blown. I didn't take a major upside down dive like on my old hydroplane used to, but it just kept getting water in it by doing power spin out on turns(on purpose) and water came over the transom then I would get the boat to shore and turn it upside down to drain water out but I didn't kill the engine to do it.
Just drained water quickly and redumped it back in the water. Then one time it came on shore and went upside down on land with engine still running when I turned it over, it stalled. Ever since then it started this loosing power and dieing under light, slow accel. I don't know what happened but once I get it back together I'll do some more investigating.
Low speed needle setting was set at 3/4 turn, high speed at 1 1/4 turn.

I too wondered about if it was the coil due to the fact it would restart though hard to start when I would choke it. I have the carb apart and sprayed everything with gumout and compressed air. I'm going to replace all carb and head gaskets, cylinder bolts and piston ring just because it's apart but I still didn't find anything wrong yet. the only thing I'm unsure about is the darn coil.

Pull the cylinder off see if theres score marks on the piston.Does it have good compression still?

3/4 on low sounds too lean. Richen it up a tad and raise the idle speed as needed.

I agree with Scott...according to the manual for the 230RC, the carb LOW needle should be between 1 and 1.5. The HIGH between 1-1/8 and 1-5/8.
