s245 evo

Hi all,I am new to gas boats but have been running FE for years. I have a Silex that I was running on a CY ( )and have changed over to a S254 Evo. It has the full mod piston and modded carb from Gizmo, no base gasket and 20 thou clearance. Problem is no matter what we try it will not fire up. Has good spark and tried everything I can think of. Including trying 3 carbs and fuel down the hole,Any idea,s guys? I am running 98 octane fuel at 16-1 oil ratio

Hi there, I have a Silex also and I love it its a great hull!
I am running a g26 modded and a 6717 propshop 3 blade currently in the low 60 mph range.
Yours looks great and has a good running attitude. I do know that when you cross anyones ROOSTER you may fly just as your did!!:ohmy:

As far as your problem goes I know the RCMK's have a coil grounding issue. Just for piece of mind run a jumper wire from the coil to the block of the engine. I believe there is even a thread on this issue on MGB.

However you said you have spark??? Have you broken down the engine to check for internal damage?

If the plug is fireing and your getting fuel to the plug and cylinder it should at least get a POP sound.

Also do you have your timming cranked up? Most times a lot of timing will make starting difficult.

More info from you would help I just rambled off a few of the things that pertain to you problem.

Fairly common early on is a loose starter dog on flywheel, it can allow key to get sheared, if this happens ... NO START.

Well an update, put base gasket back , noticed source coil gap to close, reset with the old paper trick. The only way we could get it going was to blow compressed air through carby whilst pulling. Got her fired up. Came back 1/2 hour later and had same probs again, choked it hard and got going on full throttle,,, just. When cover carb to choke alot of fuel coming out of carb but not much into crank? Needles set 1 high, 2 low.
This is the hardest new motor to start myself and friends have come across

Sounds like its to rich on the low causing it to flood making you have to open the throttle to clear out the jug to make it fire.

Send it to GIZMO for a check out, if a factory defect ? should be a N/C repair.

If Gizmo's ( Bruce )track record is any indication of it getting fixed right, he will take care of you :drinks:

Scotts right u might have to send it back. Before u spend money on shipping start at the basics. Change ur plug, I have seen new plugs spark fine out of a motor but when its put back in the compression causes it to misfire or not fire at all. Change fuel it does not take much for fuel to go bad. Pull the plug after choking a few times and c how wet it is. Blowing air into the carb to get it to fire makes it sound like its way to rich but u hav already tried 3 carbs?

Mine does the samething. Hardest starting thing I've seen in a long time. I'll bet if we turn the lsn in to 1 3/4 it will ire right up? Bu will it be to lean then?
