RE: will not start

help again.
i bought a brand new 260 zenoah and 813 carb from bonzi sports and after 2 days and 5 blisterd fingers later i still can not get it to start .
i have fuel to the carb, i have the negative isolated and a spark at the plug but like hell will it start and my pull start hand has had enough.
if the plug was faulty could it give a weak spark or would it not spark at all.
i have noticed when i pump the carb the return fuel line has bubbles in it could you tell me if this is normal

Is the plug getting wet with gas is my first question?

i have had the plug in and out loads of times some times it is soaked others its dry
i read that with 813a carb you should not pump the throttle arm before start up. i have done both still with no start up
i think i will order some extra plugs to eliminate the one i have

Dry the plug, and crank the engine over several times without the plug on it and with carb closed to get any excess gas out in case it's flooded. Then put plug back on and prime the carb. Open throttle about 1/4 and choke the carb with your thumb and pull the engine over slowly...it should "pop" after a few cycles...if not check to see if you have gas on your thumb. If it pops and/or if your thumb is wet, remove thumb from carb and pull engine over fast a few times... should start up. If not, choke again and repeat slow pull to turn it over a few times or until it pops... unchoke and try again. These engines really should be easy to start unless something is really wrong. Some bubbles in the primer bulb isn't really anything to worry about, unless there are a LOT.

Some other things you may want to check:

- check for spark...and try a new plug... always a good thing to have several spares.
- make sure you have good grounding of the grey coil to the engine... composite mounts or anodized mounts sometimes make for a very poor ground, in which case a ground wire from the right coil mounting screw (the hole with brass in it) to the engine's body will help.
- make sure the black wire isn't grounding to engine
- make sure your carb and carb block aren't loose or leaking air
- check for signs of leakage at the seals (gas or oil coming out)
- check that the flywheel is not rubbing on the red coil (use a standard business card to set approximate coil clearance).
- when you crank engine to start it, pull it fast... I've seen guys struggling with engines because they were simply pulling them over too slow after choking
- if all else fails, remove flywheel and check that the key is still in place and not sheared.

After confirming all the above, if you still have no luck, I would contact seller and have them check/repair/replace engines.

i will give it another go when i get spare spark plug . it is really hard to pull the engine over feels like high compresion nothing stops it turning over easy when plug is out and no sign of plug hitting piston etc.
as for engine supplier i bought it from bonzi in usa and i am in england uk and have had the engine since november 2009 but only fitted the thing 2 days ago so
i think i might be stuck with it.
as for the flywheel key i took the flywheel off to inspect and it was fine
i will get to the bottom of it lol brand new and never had a tune out of it (sinfull )

Just a quick question. It may sound pretty stupid, but have you checked the spark plug connection to the plug? I came across this once when the connection was too big for the plug. It would give an occassional spark but the engine would not start, I had to clamp the conection tighter with pliers. Give it a look its worth a try.

batch of engines 260pum2 supossed to be a newer version of the engine how much this differs from the 260pum i do not know.
the cheap chinese engine this replaces just had low power but started no bother i seem to have spent quite a bit for a step backwards

Another question again. I noticed you said you have the 260pum2 version, what is the condition of the batteries for the electronic ignition? Maybe you should check out the ignition system.

this might sound daft to you but what batteries are you on about? to my knowledge the ignition does not
have any just the red and grey coils.i think the difference is in the ports of the engine with the pum2 having 4ports .
i might be wrong mind you as am new to all this lol :read:

It sounds like the problem I had with my RCMK evo when I first got it, I was over priming it and flooding the crankcase. Take the plug out and turn the motor/boat upside down and pull it 10-15 times with the throttle open. Slowly pull the motor over with your finger over the carb until its just wet, then try and start. How much throttle are you using to start?
