Soldering a Ferrule to a cable

Moofy07 replied the topic: RE: Soldering a Ferrule to a cable

Hi,
I have used the drilled strut as well for lubrication, but if you have the full lenght strut bearing it also can spin and the grease runs out the back because of the capillary action, and it may not make its way right to the innerparts of the strut.
Just info guys.

Agreed. The drilled struts or drives work well with bushing bearings at each end, which traps in the grease. I've found them to be pretty much useless with the sleeve bearings unless you're using very low viscosity grease. I like to pull the cables out to check them every day of running, so I take this opportunity to re-grease everything at the same time. You will normally catch a break before it costs you a prop if you do this.

Took my cat for a small run last night in the rain, about the duration of a heat race, after pulling the stub when I got home I found it was still nice and lubed, the Capillary action did pull a minor amount of grease from the hole but still had plenty on the stub. I run a brass sleeve bushing, but run slots rather than holes. My solder held up so thats a good start, now just need some different sized flexi's so I get get the hotpipe tuned to the right length for my Evo.

Just a FYI you can use pieces of 1" header tubing cut to whatever length you need instead of that flex pipe on the Hotpipes. Less leaky too.

It does sound like an good solution, Does it put any more load on the pipe? I guess I could use tubing until i find the sweetspot then get a flexi made at that length.

Actually many guys use the tubing without problems. I've only used the flex, but it's an option for cheap testing. :)
