Hi Folks
I run with the Spektrum DX6i (2.4gig) transmitter and its dual receiver both with separate antennas.
Rightly or wrongly both receivers are sealed inside the radio box with their short antennas. I was initially worried that the sealed enclosure of the radio box (and its 6mm thick perpex lid) might affect the signal to the receivers. However there has been no problem on the small lake on which I run.
It is in my opinion very important regardless to range test the radio system prior to use (or following any significant alterations).
I agree with Woodie that a fail safe gizmo should be considered a must have. Many decent systems have one form or another included as standard and I’ve seen separate modules that can be connected to the receiver also.
In the case of my Spektrum I have its fail safe pre-set so that if the transmitter fails for any reason the throttle servo immediately shuts down to cut the engine.
I always test that at the lakeside before running by simply switching off the transmitter to check that the throttle servo does immediately fully close the throttle.
It is refreshing for me to know that if I do go head first off the jetty into the cold water, at least my boat will stop!
Cheers
Craig
