Hi there,I have just brought a AC-R42 from Gizmo motors (great looking boat) But i am looking in buying a  Rev Unlimited 26cc 6.8 for my boat.
Has anyone had any knowledge on these motors ? and Pros &cons  or should i just stick to a Zenoah motor :cheer: ?

Thanks to any info you can give me.

Never owed a Rev, but I've been running the Zen's for years and love them.

Marc,
You can not go wrong by sticking with Zenoah engines. I would also beware of anyone using hp figures to sell there engines especially ones that do not even have a working dyno. I would do some research find out what options come on the type of engine you are looking for. See what class interests you as the engine size will determine what classes you can fit into and don't believe a lot of what you read. Look at results and look for quality as the engine is usually the biggest investment for your boat.

Without stepping on anyone's toes, my engine of choice would be the QD pioneer 29.5, 1 mm stroker engine. Engine test on my dyno's show it to be the most powerful production engine available with HP amounts exceeding 8 at 16,500 RPM. The engine also has excellent low; mid-range torque & HP. It is also able to turn a 10 X 6 carbon fiber prop faster than any engine tested thus far. It also has very good over-rev HP.

Jim, that's good to know. What do you think of the 30.5 Quickdraw Pioneer?

Again, without stepping on any toes, I have not run any test on a 30.5 cc QD Pioneer. However, some tests that I have run on the 26 cc QD Pioneers curved transfers & it's adequate time area numbers indicate very good results. One of the key features is found in the QD's exhaust system starting at the liner's exhaust window. Without further explanation, look in the exhaust window of a modified 29.5 cc Zenoah, with the cooling flange attached & observe the very poor transition from the liner's rectangular exhaust window to the round shape of the header. Sharp edges, small inside radii & the lack of smooth tapers before the header doesn't make for efficient gas flow, without turbulence, in this very important area!

Hi Marc. You have been given some excellent advice here. In terms of history, reliability, availability, and potential power per dollar, the Zens are the ticket. You are starting your homework well by asking opinions, but just keep in mind that for the average motor buyer, it's very hard to not recommend what he has spent his money on, even if it's not all that it should be.

The other major consideration should be, what you want to do with the boat down the line, and how much you want to commit ($) to the motor and a good tuned pipe. Because those two have to work well together for a strong combination. You can start off with a clone motor and maybe have to upgrade over and over and still have a clone, or you can get a very reliable modded Zen for more coin and enjoy it for a long time, or you can get into the more exotic purpose built marine engs. for more bucks. Your boating experience and wallet will probably guide you along. I would just say, HOMEWORK. BTW, dyno #s are a tool for eng. builders to compare the progress of THEIR engine development.

Guys,
Always remember to ask what classes a person is interested in when recommending a engine. I will agree the Quickdraw engines are very good engines they also put you in X classes or open classes. Some people do not realize this when they purchase a engine and then get discouraged when they can't race in the classes they originally wanted to race in.
