Does anyone make a add on stinger that will quiet down the noise, without killing the power?

You can tell just as well with a gas boat if you come off pipe, it will lose significant power.

thx Marc I'm not sure if I have ever been on pipe with my gas. Stock engine would run 52 mph on a Stalker Radar gun. Still breaking in the Mod engine. With nitro I go by sound and rpms. If its a little fat it would not get on pipe, to lean and it would bog in the corners! With gas I have speed and torque from just above idle to wide open.

Gas engines are very torquy and will run surprisingly well even with less than optimal pipe settings, but if you get the pipe tuned just right and slowly accelerate you will here it coming on. It is much more noticeable with boats that put more load on engines, such as hydros. If they come off pipe you know in a hurry!

With the stock motor there was a sweet spot, when it kicked in the boat would wheelie. Still looking for that from the Mod. Running 16:1 Octura X470 and 12 1/2 inches on the pipe. It runs strong but still waiting for the big burst of speed! Hydro?? lol I know REAL MEN DON"T TURN LEFT!!!!!!!! Last rigger I had was one of the first RoadRunners with an OPS .67 and Irwin quiet pipe. That's how long I have been out of the sport, have things ever changed!

What pipe are you using? How are you measuring? If in a straight line from exhaust port to weld (if a 0 band)..12.5 is pretty long and probably why it doesnt hit the pipe hard.

Heres a quick video of my whiplash showing how hard it hits the pipe when stabbing the throttle from a little over an idle

90 degree 3 in. offset header, BH Hanson pipe with a 1 " band. Stayed a little long to keep some bottom end torque. Measuring from the port to the band.

One major contributor too being unaware of a gas engine coming on or perceiving it doing so are a heavy prop load. As mentioned having the torque we do, engine will transition pass the this point relatively seamlessly.

Prop down some and it can become quite obvious :dance2:
* It is the point where the rpm will jump up and engine seems to suddenly wake up and get perky.
Those boat / engine set ups that are biased towards broad rpm use seldom seem to come on the pipe, but if pipe length is close to being right actually does. Set ups in the race boats where props tend to be smaller and pipes shorter, the RUSH of power coming on the pipe is very noticeable.
