Im just getting into RC boating and i got a few questions??? I have a eager beaver weed wacker motor, it idles at around 6,000 rpm's and full is about 9-10000 rpms'.its air cooled and i need to get a different exhaust. i plan on getting a 30-50" deep v hull or making one, i have just had some trouble finding information. i also have no clue what type of prop i should use.

These day with the prices of stock Zenoahs or RCMKs I tend to tell newcomers that messing around with a weedwhacker engine is pretty much useless unless you REALLY want to go that route. You can get a stock Zenoah for about $220 or an Evo RCMK for $279. Both are supported by MANY parts and accessories to make your build much easier, plus the power is at least double that of what you might get out of a really good weedeater engine once modified, not to mention the reliability is much better. Not trying to discourage you, just trying to guide you in the right direction. :drinks:

Hi mate your best option is to get hold of the plans for the 48" wooden deep vee,its an easy build and the hull runs very well indeed.I built one as my first gas boat a few yrs ago and used a 28 cc weedy engine,i kept her air cooled and ran her with the stock muffler for most of the time i had her although i did try a tuned pipe but i had to custom fit a header as the ones available wont fit most weedy engines.Where are you from?,i build a glass vee capable of running with a weedy engine but shipping over the pond is way too high.If by chance your over this side it wont be a problem.

Heres the glass one i build and a video of its maiden, she runs about 30 mph pretty easy.I did some porting on her after the vid and also tweaked the prop and shes running a lot faster than the video now according to the guy i built her for.

Here is a link to the 48" Vee Plans... www.modelgasboats.com/Resource...48%22_Deep_Vee/

If you decide to go with the weedwhacker engine, here are a few good links that might help...

You can indeed build a fun boat with a line trimmer engine, that's how it all got started! You just to decide if you want to make it much simpler by going with purpose designed engines costing a bit more, or save some $ and go with the line trimmer engine and possibly save a few $. In the end, whatever you decide is cool because you will be building a boat! :drinks: Whatever happens, just don't give up.

hey how fast did that boat go with that weed eater in it. Some people say that weed wackers aren't worth it. I got the weed wacker for free and i want to keep this low budget. How long did it take you to build that 48 wood plan boat???

A weedwhacker engine is probably a good choice if you have access a machine shop because you'll have to make a lot of custom parts.

Hi mate not sure of the exact speed on her but the woody with same motor was clocked at 30mph with the same motor in stock form apart from a walbro 167 carb. The one in the red hull has had minor porting work done and i custom fitted an all in one pipe.Shes faster than the woody so id say shes 30 + now for sure,in that vid was before i did more work on the motor and prop etc.In the vid id say shes arround 25 maybea tad more its hard to say for sure. The guy who has her now says shes running very well,so for a cheap starter boat you cant go wrong with a weedy motor. From starting the woody to water only took me 8 weeks doing a bit here and there but i know guys who have taken a yr  .

Theres nothing wrong with weedy engines! Mine runs quite fast with a self mod 26cc and a standard X472 octura prop! Judging from the vid. above I would say mine is twice as fast with out a tuned pipe! I will try to get a vid of it this afternoon for you!

Awwwww! Your little engine is sooooo cute!
