short Flex cable..

gc9n created the topic: short Flex cable..

This is my Second problem i have with the boat..

i recently added a water pump because i wanted to use a Clutch ,i successfully added the pump/clutch. Now the problem is that the Flex Cable is longer and also the second end (engine side) have to be square and it is round! So i purchased an adapter photo below..

After that i had to Solder it .. i tried to solder it with everything you can imagine even with wire soldering.. but everything was disaster..

Now i found a flex cable from a guy from Australia ebay.. but the smallest was too long for me.. do you guys have any idea what should i do?????

Just an idea but why not change to a round collet and round cable :)

cause that type of clutch is for square end only..

Something else.. could i change the propeller end strut with something else that requires only round flex cable, and put the square end to the clutch side

You might want to try Loctite 680 (bearing retaining fluid) on the adapter. A lot of guys in Europe use it for ferules on flex cables. Apparently it works great.

Thats why i allways use round collets and cables no need to ever worry about soldering ,just cut to length and fit it.

Soldering cables is a tricky one, Low grade SILVER solder is required. Sta-bright 5% at minimum, 15% about maximum.
A proper silver flux also required

If you have a new cable & Square end ? .... I would be willing to do it for you, just cover shipping :drinks:

** Can't solder a cable & square adaptor once the wrong flux and solder have been tried

Marcs idea about using the loctite retaining compound also works well. You must clean the cable well first though ,maybe use brake cleaning fluid or similar to remove any grease dirt etc.
