speed problem

Rodriguez created the topic: speed problem

I have this 40'' boat with a 26cc homelite engine & a 1'' copper exhaust. I do not know what kind of prop this is but the boat travels very slow & the motor sounds like it is over reving. Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be? Thanks.

Back in my homelite days a good all around prop for me was a octura X472.
My stock homelite speeds in a vee hull were 30-35 Mph. I did a modified homie and that one one would run low 40's this was in a vee hull as well with tuned pipe. So if your in this area of speed that is unfortunaley the norm speed a homie.

Is the prop balanced & sharpened? If the prop has a dull leading edge it won't hook up properly.

Hi,
Try and borrow a tuned exhaust and give it a go. I think you will find a big difference.

Hi,
Also check the driveshaft is not slipping.
Hope this helps.

Do you actually have a tuned pipe?

I will try to do away with the set screws on the shaft & put a pin instead. Also I do not have a tuned pipe. It is running a straight pipe all the way back. The prop is very sharp as well. Thanks for the info.

Straight pipe may sound cool and loud but they are bad for performance. Also set screw drives can be problematic, and it maybe slipping as you stated. File flatspots on the shafts where your setscrews tighten to ensure non slippage.

Sorry for the delay, but I stay real busy. Yes the pipe is copper & i am going to get a tuned pipe soon. What the difference will be I donot know but every boat I have seen hase one so they must make a difference.
