Welcome to the illness....lol
IMO
get it out of there
Lube the heck out of it with grease
Pro's
won't need to worry about it melting up & wrapping up inside
which makes it VERY difficult to get out once cooled down
Con's
Can not think of any

Some guys like them, some guys don't. I personally run without the liner, simply because I've never really felt the need to use one and have heard horror stories of some heating up and wrapping onto the cable and virtually destroying both cable and stuffing tube...sometimes part of the boat as well. I do think however that if you keep them lubed properly, they will work fine. If you do decide to run without the teflon liner, I would recommend getting new 5/16" K&S brass tubing. If you keep the existing tube and remove the liner you get a brass with I.D of 11/32" and the cable will be very loose inside this. It may allow the cable to "slap" inside the tube. I've used the 11/32" in the past, but only on setups with an "S" bend in the tube, which reduces slop. JMHO. :)

thanks for the advice . the tube which is fitted to the boat is not 5/16 brass its a
alumnium tube with a bearing on the engine side it runs straight with no bends in it. do you think this is any good or should i rip it out and fit a 5/16 brass tube?

Hi,
Here is my two cents worth. I have found if you run the flexshaft without the liner in the stuffing tube (tube diameter 5/16")it will never let you down. Just make sure it is greased.
Hope this helps.

the tube is 5/16 but not the brass type i looked on web to see if i could find a photo of it but could not find one. i dont want to rip the radio box out just to take a photo of it. i think i will give it a good greasing , will motor bike anti fling chain grease do or not?

thanks again for the advice

I use anti sling marine grease, I'm not sure what chain grease is like, so I can't personally say.

I don't think that would be the best grease to use. For a good, easy to find grease, go to a Mercury dealer and get the 2-4-c grease. I used it for years with great success. Now I mostly use the grease that CC Racing sells...it's from www.rcboatparts.com really good stuff.
