RE: Red Coil problem (Zenoah)

Jkak created the topic: Red Coil problem (Zenoah)

Folks,
Being new to problem area I am looking for some advice. Yesterday I tried to fire up my Zenoah after a month of no use. Initially the spark was not showing any spark so I changed it. It fired up a few times, but could not keep it running. Then spark was gone again. Making the story short I tested with a voltmeter the coils and found the following:
Grey Coil
Spark-Red=2.0 kOhm
Red-Earth=0.5 Ohm
Spark-Earth=2.0 kOhm
Red Coil
Red-Black=erratic behavior 15 k~180 kOhm
Black-Earth=180 Ohm
Red-Earth=erratic behavior 50k~180kOhm
When I say erratic I mean that yesterday the meter would not even budge, today we have some kind of a reading but still beyond specs (although black-earth seems to give correct number).
Should I spend on a replacement coil or is there something I am missing. The engine is new (Bonzi mod1) less than a gallon run.
The grey seems ok, but the Red coil seems funny although the second reading is within the given specs (but using wrong connection).

Thank you

Pull both coils off & make sure they have a clean connection with the engine, you may have some rust on the terminals, this is not uncommon. Also check the connector to the plug is clean. If you are using anodized mounts to mount the grey coil, make sure the anodized area around the mounting holes is removed as this will prevent a good connection too.

Also check where the two coils connect, it may just be loose.
