What I Learned at the Lake Today

Tropheus created the topic: What I Learned at the Lake Today

1. Landscapers on lawnmowers reak havoc on a radio signal no matter how much you spent on the equipment..... Failsafe lit up like a Christmas Tree

2. Zip Ties are not a reliable way to keep your flex shaft in the tube if it spins out of the collet....... Lost my best Voodoo Prop, flex shaft and D Dog

3. You can never have enough flatation stuffed in your boat.... After my boat dumped the Shaft/Prop out the back, she sat in the middle of the lake and sunk up to the cowl (Then it started to rain)

I haven't had a day this bad since I lost a hydro up a bank and into a tree. That day I learned the importance of a fail safe.

Well, I hope someone else might learn from my dumb mistakes. I have been at it for 4 years and still have days like this. It took everything in me not to put everything I had on ebay. :( B)

Have no disillusions we who have been at this awhile have had similar days  Sorry to hear about such days from anyone, but Murphy does live so such is life ... chin up and continue as you were.

:( Sorry to hear about your day.
As they say when it rains it pours. We have all had something like that happen to us all, but all on the same day that really sucks. Just remember the next few days have got to be a huge improvement for you.

Hey Buddy
Scott is right when he says Murphy does live, but everyone that has been in this hobby for a while has had similar days, luckily enough they are few and far between
my advice would be to befriend a diver and get that prop back
Heres to better days
Cheers Mark

Funny you should say that....I was thinking the exact same thing this morning. The lake is not big. I was also thinking about getting some earth magnets and doing a little fishing. This lake has a pretty big turn out so I could probably sell stuff back to some boaters. (Just kidding) There must be a treasure trove of hardware and gear at the bottom of this lake. People have been RC Boating there fo a long time.

You know, the funny thing about yesterday was I knew there were issues with the set up and changes that I made but I ran it anyway. Over and over again. I had a crappy week and wanted to enjoy the day but I should have known the outcome especially the way my flex shaft was installed and a bit short after making some strut adjustments. I knew better. I came home to an overflowing washing machine and this morning had a flat tire.

I think I should buy a lottery ticket after the week I had.

We all have lake days like that.........

The new 2.4 radios dont hear spark or mechanical noise from a lawnmower or your buddys boat.

I hard silver just the tip of my collet ends of the shaft and havent lost one due to slippage since.

The split shaft saver is what I use to keep the shaft in the boat if it comes loose at the collet.
