Hi all just bought a cheap 2.4GHz radio set and note the receiver ariel is only 23cm long,am i in order attaching it to a normal boat car antenna which is already on my boat or is this a definate no no ?thanks for a wonderful site & keep up the good work.

My futaba 2.4 antenna's just stick out side of radio box's. I use a piece of radio box tape to hold it down in the middle. They just kind of hang out and have had no problems at all.

For one thing never bend the tip over and have cap over it to hold in place in the antenna. I ran mine inside the lid till I had radio problems one time. If you plan on going to different places to run, some day you might have a problem. You know a couple of dollars is a lot cheaper than a new boat.

Not sure if I understand the question correctly, but if you are considering lengthening the wire, I would recommend against it. The antenna wire is tuned and altering the length can make it less effective. I'm not sure how critical this is on the 2.4 systems though, but wouldn't mess with it...or check with the manufacturer first for their suggestions.
