Hi Woodie, I dont have any pics, just checked but if there's a model boat club near you, I'd be checking out what their boats have underneath. Also any good hulls on the net, especially Apache/Cigarette type hulls.
I seem to remember seeing some on here or Jims. Carlo has just released a couple of good hulls, and their was an underside shot of them somewhere. They would give you an idea.
My old Dumas 40inch that I'm doing actaully doesn't have very well designed strakes.
They are not sharp, the strakes themselves are not as flat as they could be.
I've tried to flatten and sharpen them a bit, and I've taken them back off the stern, in a V shape. Got that idea off here or Jim's. Smoothes out the water at the back.
Remember too many, or too large strakes will affect rough water handling.
A hull with no strakes will cut through waves and handle rough water better than a hull with wide or lots of strakes. The flat bottoms on the straked lift the hull and cause it to bounce over waves.
If the plans did not have strakes you could always try it without them. You are putting quite a large enqine into a narrow for length hull IMO, so maybe with all that power, she'll come up onto the plane without strakes.
Their is a full size powerboat builder here in NZ who claims that strakes are to make up for a poor design. None of his hulls have strakes, and they handle rough water well, but to get the best top speed, do need bigger engines.
