Little help for a newb please!

Few build questions from a newb!
Hi guys,

I have been flying airplans for a while and I also race rc cars and I would like to get into rc boats also

I realy injoy the challeng of building and build all of my rc planes from scratch.
What I am wanting to do is use my 49CC pocket bike engine for this boat. I know there is a company in china that builds these boats but I cant seem to find where to buy parts as I know that if I could purchase the replacment driveline components from that boat I would have what I need.
Do any of you know where I can find this? Or know what adaptors or parts I might need to connect the drive line to this engine?

Second is I want to build a mono hull and Im not shure about how long I should make it? Should I go with the 70 something inch plans on here or the 40 something inch?

One last question is that im very good at working with blue core foam and its what I build my planes out of, I assume I could just use the plans and build the boat out of foam and then just fiber glass the whole thing. Is there any reason that this wouldnt work?

Thanks for all the help guys! Be blessed!

Hi Chomper!

More information is needed to answer your questions.
Is your pocket bike engine a water cooled Blata?
If that's the case you can get a lot of information and buy hardware from:
www.mhz-powerboats.com/
So far I know they are the only one worldwide to provide accessories to the very powerfull Blata engines.
About the boat. You say nothing about what mono is on your mind.
For my part I am building a 56" mono in plywood for my Blata 40. And this is absolutely the shortest boat for an engine like that.
Should I build another boat for that engine later, it would be AT LEAST 60" in lenght - probably more. 72" should do really fine.
For two reasons:
- Less space in the boat = trouble in the build.
- The Blatas can easily drive a much larger hull to better performance than a too small hull.

I am absolutely no expert, but I hope this was a kind of help to you.

Cheers! :cheer:

This is the engine that I have. www.scooterpart.net/products.php?id=43
I am building the 72" offshore mono plans that are free from www.modelpowerboat.com
Im building it with foam first then fiberglassing the foam. Im actually on vacation this week so I am getting alot done already. The boat is finished out of the foam and im painting it with latex paint to keep the fiberglass from melting the foam. I will start fiberglassing later today.
I would like to order everything I need to get it going tonight if possible. What prop should I run? What rudder? What other hardware will I need? Thanks!

HI guys,

Been working alot on the hull and its turning out pretty good I think. Got all my hardware and drive stuff ordered supposed to be here friday. How many layers of fiber glass should I make my hull you guys think? How much should my hull end up weighing? About how much should a wooden hull like this weigh?
Thanks guys!

Hi Chomper.

Wow! You move fast in your build!
If that huge engine is as powerfull as it looks, you should worry more about strength than weight in the hull.
How many rpm's and hp's does your engine produce?
And most important for me: I am curious. :)
Please bring a couple of pics of your build as it is now.

Cheers! :cheer:

Cooling your engine is the only problem.I see. How much air will be getting to them fins. You may be fine.Have fun.

I will be leaving it air cooled and not putting the hull cover on for the test run to make shure everything is working correctly then I plan on converting it to water cooled for the future so that I can run the hull cover and it will look better.
I finished mounting the engine and hooking up all the drive line last night. Now I just have t put the radio stuff in, mount the fuel tank, and finish the exhaust. Do you guys have any ideas to use for the exhaust? I used a pocket bike exhaust and cut it off a few inches after the flang where it mounts to the engine to have something to work from, But I donno what to put the pipe together with. I don't have a welder. Is there any kind of epoxy that can hold up to the exhaust? I have some copper water pipe that I could use. I would like to be able to use some kind of tuned pipe later but for now this will work. Im hoping to give it a good test run this weekend.

Yes they make high temp Teflon pipe, that's clamped down. What pipe dia are we dealing with? YES use copper pipe & slice the end to slide over your muffler. Most gas tuning pipes are 3/4" or 1 " most big nitro pipes are 3/4 " A gas exhaust are hotter burning than a nitro exhaust. high temp Teflon won't hold up for long.
