Rudder bracket length on a Conquest

Tar18 created the topic: Rudder bracket length on a Conquest

Hi folks.
I have a 4 inch rudder bracket with rudder and was going to use it on a Conquest. Will that work out OK? I have the strut with a skeg to use.
I appreciate all answers
Regards
Tar :)

Pretty sure I have read others make comment along with my own findings on the AM Conquest, turn prowess was best with rudder in close to transom and not extended behind prop.

Thanks Scott, I guess I will get a shorter rudder bracket.
Thanks again.

Some people do believe that. I have tested several combos. In my opinion, take it or leave it, definitely go with the 4" extended rudder and tuck in the prop as close to the transom as you can. I still run inverted strut on mine after going back and forth between setups. Prop in close and rudder out is the way to go. Most will recommend the straight rudder blade and I would agree with them on that, but my latest is using a tapered blade and loves it...so that's still up in the air for me! :)

Tar, the Conquest setup I'm referring to is the Black Conquest you saw run in person last year in some very rough water when we tested and took video...same boat I raced in London.. it's a bad boy! I'm sticking with it for this year again...love it!

Thanks Marc for the comments. I do have the Speedmaster strut with skeg. I will try my 4 inch Speedmaster rudder on the Conquest. Yes yours ran well so I will go with that for the time being. I will also look at the reversing of the strut and try that.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Reversing the strut can be a pain in the rear when it comes to adjustments... That's why I made a custom strut that can be adjusted from the top on my last Conquest (the one you saw). The one reviewed on here is a standard AM strut that I reversed... that's a bit more of a PITA when you need to make adjustments. You have to put the radio box further forward to give easy access to the strut or make the box so it's very easy to remove and re-install.

Here are a few pics of the last one I did... www.modelgasboats.com/forum/28...est-2010/#12156
