3D drawing for dummies?

Woodie created the topic: 3D drawing for dummies?

Hi folks.

As most of you surely must know my "Smokin' Cigarette" is not nearly done yet. (But it will be).

On the side I would like to prepare drawings of a better and bigger mono more suited to my Blata Engine. This time the drawings should be made on computer with some program tailormade specially for designing boats (with deck, chines and keel line) in 3D for dummies.
NOT with a difficulty level (or price level) like real AutoCad or likewise.
CNC compability is not nessecary.

Does anyone know about such a program? If not for free, then just for a reasonable price?
If you have some experiences or recommendations, please let me know!

Cheers! :cheer:

Woodie.

Added same day: I have found a program at www.3dboatdesign.com/ costing 50 USD. Also heard through the grapewine of some doubt about the quality and that it's for free somewhere (but where?) on the internet.

I've never really tried the "boat design" programs really. The only one I ever slightly messed around with was Carene... I didn't like it for what I was doing. I just draw up my stuff in a CAD program.

Im not a CAD guru by any means, what I have been using is DesignCad 3D Max17.
Not sure how it fares against other programs out there but it does the job for me.
I draw all my plans etc. in 2D mode, still havent got the hang of 3D yet.
As far as drawing up frames etc. though its pretty easy, Im completely unco and manage to get by without any training. ;)

Awwwww! Your little engine is sooooo cute!

I do most of my drawing in 2D also...that's really all that's required to make boats. 3D is nice to have for parts design, to get a real idea of the final parts/assemblies. Programs like Inventor or Solidworks are nice for that kind of stuff. In my opinion, not really worth it or necessary for making little boats! :)

Some good free 2D CAD include Draftsight, or DoubleCadXT (this is what I use and prefer).

I have a 2d cad program that is super easy to use. I bought it some where around 15 years ago from wal mart for 10 bucks. Now they advertise it for 40. To me its worth it. www.deltacad.com/
