Tips/Advice for 45" Offshore mono.

Ozpulse created the topic: Tips/Advice for 45" Offshore mono.

Wanting a boat that it wont matter so much when theres some chop on the water.
Also has to fit in the trunk of my car so theres no hassle when I want to take the family down so 45" long is perfect. ;)
Im thinking 45" long x 15" wide with 4" of 'freeboard' bottom of 'v' will be 1.5" below this.
When I say 'chop' Im talking 3 to 4 inch(sometimes bigger) waves that always seem to be coming in over the sandflats at high tide, the water only gets to waist deep so recovery is easy. Its just always slightly rough from the wind coming across the bay.
Just looking for any suggestions from you guys before I go mad and start cutting timber, have a basic look done up in CAD with side profile and bulkhead shape.
Will try to put a pic up in a while.

Thanks guys,
Chad.

Hey Chad.

I am a former boatbuilder w. some real sailing experience. My knowledge about MGB's is limited though, but experience tells me that a slim, somewhat heavy deep V hull w. a deep sharp bulkhead will do the job. (Look to my unfinished Smokin' Cigarette: It's 56 x only 12 inches).

Others may have some other opinions. B)

Cheers and good luck!

Woodie.

Thanks Woodie! ;)
The width was mainly for extra stability, the mono/cat hybrid I built for my mate is 15" wide and we've had that out in some real rough water (waves taller than the boat)
Aswell as purposely chasing real boats to jump thier wakes.
I have yet to see vids of anybody taking thier rc boats out in conditions that he has had that one out in.

Chad.

It is just my opinion, that a sleek and deep V hull with some weight at the keel will handle best in rough waters.
It will never make any speed records under these conditions, but it will surely outrun other flimsy and flapsy wide lightweight boats, that mostly are made for flat waters.
Is'nt that what its all about? :woohoo:
Just point the air intakes backwards, as the boat will take a lot of water.

But still: Maybe someone else in the MGB-Gang thinks otherwise?

Cheers! :cheer:
