gasworx created the topic: trouble with rcmk

orderd two new rh pullstarts on 10/25/2011 after the other four i have had have all died, (bad design) paid for them but rcmk have not dispached or processed my order,
i have tryed sending emails, and also posting on their forum but have still had no reply!

rcmk assured me that they were producing stonger pullstarts but there is no sign of them.

I had the same problem. I had two RCMK's (both have since been sold, one in the boat, the other as a spare). The first one I didnt shim correctly and it tore the nylon all to pieces. The second was spaced correctly, and the starter just died. All the parts look pristine, literally third pull, and it wouldnt engage. The first I replaced with a spare Zen starter, the second I asked for a replacement and was denied, so I used a spare zen starter again. Was told there was no problem with the RCMK pull starters; user error. I picked up a skiff this year with a stock RCMK; it has an easy start..... Thank God!

I posted this on JRCBD last week . . .

Yeah, those RCMK starters suck, same thing happened to me. At the time I was going to order an EZ start from Gizmo but they were sold out. Ended up bolting on the starter from my old Zen G230 and it has worked like a champ ever since. So in the event ur having a hard time locating EZ, a standard Zen pull start works just fine.

guys, I am using the RCMK starters in each direction (lh and rh versions) with all my multi-cylinder engines and I did not have any issue with those.

2 tricks or howtodos:

1st)trick is to put a 3mm shim/washer between flywheel and starter nut because in delivered condition the gab is much too high an then the starter axis will be bended too much.
2nd) check the knot of the starter cable in the starter handle, sometimes not properly prepared by the manufacturer.

Change your package in this way and check the knot of the starter handle, then you won't get problems....

new ali starters in december!!!!!!!!! finaly had a reply. will do the shim trick and see how it goes, i think that the compretion of the engine is to big for the strength of the nylon starter parts, which compress, swells then fails to allow the starter to retract on the recoil
