It's for a kill switch if you want to add one. Otherwise, unused. Most people use the 'brake' funtion on the radio to stop the engine by closing the butterfly. A killswitch can be handy, but can also be the source of electrical problems.

The only reason I knew what the black wire was for is that my source coil failed last week and I read about the black wire while trying to diagnose the problem. Apologies if I gave bad Karma, how does the Karma system work?

If the black wire gets contact to the mass of the housing the ignition will be switched off and the engine stops suddenly. If you do not want to use that black wire: isolate it to prevent a mass circle.

And: if some guys do have issue with kill switches they have bought junk (is on the market, indeed) or are not familiar with the manuals. If you have bought a proper unit and if you are familiar with that manual you won't get problems and have a save boat.
