shaft wear

I took out my 1/4" driveline and notice excessive wear on the shaft just up from the DD. The Easy Vee hull has a stringer strut. How much is normal wear? The shaft was run all last season and a few runs from Late the year before. I do run sometimes weekly. And a full season of racing. The cable has been replaced. I full season and practice. What strut and bearings are better? The Zip strut has needle bearings. Any advice

You will find 3 lead teflon bushings in my outdrive. There are 2 bushings at the prop and one at the flex shaft end. I grease the bushings after every run, and I haven't changed bushings in my drive for over 3 years.

I had the same problem with my Zipp drive and it is the needle bearings not rolling that causes the wear you are seeing. The regular bearings commonly available for Stingers do not work on the Zipp drive do to the needle bearings larger OD. I ordered bronze bearings from my local bearing house and the part number is SS-814-6 .Don't have the dimensions any more but still have a couple left from when I ordered them.Gave the boat and drive to a kid in our club and they're still working after two years! Hope this helps. If your shaft is worn replacement is required because it will eat up new bushings.

I think a new strut is a good ideal. As replacing the Zip bearing leave little metal left. I'll pull that bearing as it's shot.
