You ABSOLUTELY DO want air flow under the decks. Exhaust system heat thins the air engine breaths and will kill power !!
** #1 rule of thumb is 1 to 3 ratio of intake/outlet so that hulls internal space DOES NOT buffet with air pressure fluctuations

.... So for whatever area you have getting the air in you want 3X the area for it to get out !
The carbs used are pumper types and rely of operating within an atmospheric neutral space free of pressure rises, falls or pulsing influences.
