Yes you can run in salt water, many do. You have to keep a strict after run maintenance schedule though and clean all aluminum parts with something like WD-40 and also flush the water cooling system with the same. The rest like cable cleaning and greasing is standard.

To get in cheaper I would recommend keeping an eye out for good used boats for sale and/or look into some entry level Ready To Run boats like those from Warehouse Hobbies.

Welcome to MGB. :)

Roger you can just give it a good flush .here is how i clean the Apache click on pic it,s a video

in this photo you can see that i put relief holes in the attatchment so doesnt blow of the cooling lines in the boat. you don't have to run engines but i think if you get it back to operating temp it may help loosen any salt deposits on head.

hope it helps. i will start a thred with the boat running at my marina under
"Saltwater Marina" you can check out

yes rtr's seem like a lot up front, but you can spend way way more than that building a boat unless you just stick to the bare minimum and smallest engines. Your cost will be based on two basic factors... SIZE and SPEED... both cause the rc boat price to go up fast.

IMO many of us like the build almost as much as running the finished product!

with an rc crawler background you already have a good solid foot in the door. remember a good remote, failsafe, and learn the general powertrain options that most rc boats use as these apply to both the gas and electric boats with few differences, and oh yeah its watercooled so pay attention to that system too...
just my 2 cents...
