Aluminum RC Boats!

MozzieCraft RC Boats created the topic: Aluminum RC Boats!

Hello!

I would like to inroduce myself to this forum. I started making aluminum boats a few years ago and because they were so popular I decided to setup a website and offer them for sale online. For those interested in more information you can visit my website at www.mozziecraftrcboats.com . Or, just for eye candy here is a few pictures of what I make. Any feedback is appreciated!

Nifty Al boat! Kind of a cool army-ish look... some scale 50cals with leds in the barrels would take people back to V-NOM! Oh and this would also make a cool fireboat i think...

What i find more interesting is that on the website he has a fiberglass jetski 46" V or jet hull design...

"
•Hand-laminated fiberglass RC boat is constructed using conventional wet layup methods.
•High gloss vinylester gel coat finish.
•½” 7-ply birch plywood stringers with standard 5” spacing (24” Long, 2” High).
•½” 7-ply birch transom board on vee hull (jet hull has reinforced fiberglass transom instead to accommodate pump installation).
•Removable seat for internal access.
•Offered in six colors with your choice of separate hull and deck color (black, white, gray, red, yellow, and blue).
•Offered in either standard vee or jet drive hull.
"
priced at 425 which is not to far above what most hulls run...

My questions are:
1. Will there ever be a carbon fiber option for the jetski hull?
2. Why use "High gloss vinylester gel coat finish" versus using an epoxy?

I actually plan on making a "fire boat". It's getting a red powder coat tomorrow :)

We might make up some promotioanl or one-off CF hulls, but at this point don't see putting them into production.

The easiest answer is that vinylester is more affordable and easier to work with. It's a good middle ground between polyester and epoxy in quality and cost. Epoxy is more expensive and harder to work with.

Thanks for quoting the website because the Jink is actually 42" not 46" and the gel coat is polyester not vinylester which is standard. It's the resin that's vinylester.

Thanks for the feedback!

Amen to that, im building a 1:1 scale garwood speedster cold molded hull wood boat and i am quickly becoming educated in all that is epoxy! LOL

I might have to hit you up some time on a CF hull after i get my current projects finished. I am a volunteer firefighter so i look forward to seeing the fireboat pics!

Just for reference here's a few pictures of the 42" 1/3 scale rc jet ski, the "Jink".
