56" Capricorn Apache Help

Hello,

New member here, getting back into the hobby after a long hiatus. I've got a 56" Capricorn Apache and I'm looking to try and squeeze some more performance out of the boat. I've outgrown its current performance to the point I'm a little bored with it and I'd love to squeeze some more top-end out of it. I estimate it runs 30 mph give or take as it sits with the following setup;

-Mcculloch 32CC engine (stock internals)
-Walbro WA-167 carb with velocity stack
-Home made wet exhaust (non-tuned)
-Octura Strudder drive set back 3" off the transom on spacers (set sub-surface)
-Prather 275 2 Blade Prop

I figure a tuned exhaust setup would help however they appear few and far between for the Mac engine. The only setup I've found is this one;

www.americanrcboats.com/produc...es/engmacex.htm

I already have a wet header on the motor so really I just need the pipe but haven't had any luck finding one that suits the motor.

Second I question whether going to a surface drive and different prop would be an improvement. When I built the boat the hull designer really pushed the sub-surface setup. Most of the big gas vees I see run surface drives so I wonder if this was a mistake. I'd hate to cut the hull up to move the drive unless its really going to be worth it.

Any suggestions are appreciated. I have some pics of my current setup if anyone would like to see.

Thanks.

Major Smackdown has aluminum and steel pipes for the McCullochs as well as water jackets,headers,maniflods and will turn down a cylinder for $15.His website is no longer working but he is still selling parts. His email is john@eellspdx.com He may send you pics of what you want.
That link to American R/C Boats must be an old one. I was on the site www.americanrcboats.com and couldn't find any McCulloch items.He used to modify and sell McCulloch engines and pipes but changed to Zenoahs.

if you want to get good value for money instead of changing pipe for a small increase in top end .just get a Zenoah and you would near on double your performance ( depending on setup) can get a new 300 pum zen ( thats a 290 with a stroker) on jims dock for arround 280. personaly i like stingers cause you have less drag and a straight run for your flexshaft( more efficient).
