I need a flywheel

Steve Seebold created the topic: I need a flywheel

I have a 20cc Zenoah and it needs a flywheel. Does anyone have an idea where I can get one?

I want to put it in a 45 sized nitro boat. I think it will either be a real kick, or it will just be in the way.

Isn't the taper and thread on the front of the crankshaft the same as a 260? If so, any Zenoah accessories should fit. At one time Quickdraw made a brass flywheel/start pulley for the Zenoah crankshaft. They no longer list it, but may have one available.

I wish it was that simple. There's an aluminum disk on the output side of the engine that has a magnet in it for the electronic ignition.

If you need more weight machine a brass ring and bolt it to the aluminum one that is already on there.

Or machine the entire thing from brass.

I would love to be able to do that, but I don't own a lathe and I don't have access to one.

I'm sure if you made a simple drawing any machine shop in your are can carry out the work you need.

A good friend who used to build my racing engines has the same angine and told me it doesn't run right without a little extra weight from a flywheel.

I was just going by what I have been told.

I'm going to put it in a 45 sized Cal Craft from Lenny Blake to run it in. I think it will be a lot of fun.

Steve, the last I heard you had a CNC mill. You should be able to machine a pretty accurate circle with that. I liked the suggestion about bolting a brass disk onto the existing flywheel. Balance the assembly and you're ready to go.

PS The B Cal Craft is one of my favorite boats. I converted an A size to electric and it never handled as well as the nitro version. I think it was the extra weight. Watch that with a gas conversion. Ask Lenny, he may know.
