filon instead of birch ply

I was just wondering if anyone has tried Filon (rv fiberglass siding) instead of birch ply. It comes 0.055 gauge and has gel-coat already applied.

In they RV industry they apply contact cement to a plywood substructure to attach the filon to. I thought it might be an option other than birch ply.
