More about making silent pipes

Hendrick Spoor created the topic: More about making silent pipes

Last year I wrote a article here on MGB about how to make your own silencer/muffled pipe , L I N K
It has been wintertime and I've done some more rebuilds , take a look on my online page. L I N K

The first half of that page is the same as my MGB article , you will have to scroll down.

Thanks Scott , there were no topics in the MGB-Hotpit that I could contribute ,
now I felt the urge to expose myself ;)Would be even nicer if Mich/Todd from QD or Mike Shutleworth from Redlinemotors did this themselves.
That would give me more time to 'tinker' on my own stuff.

Hendrick,
I need to read MGB more often!
The hot pipes have internal stingers, this is a piece of stinger tube that goes to the center of the two cones, it must be kept centered in the pipe as well but it isnt as quiet as the ones you use in Europe. I was thinking about working on one that is an addition to the internal stinger, simply change direction twice and I think that would help a lot, but it needs to be tried (proof is in the pudding)! I am pretty busy with the stuff we do here and its cutting into my experimenting time ha!! I hope I have answered your question. The internal stinger doesnt seem to effect the performance that I can tell, but I am sure others may not agree with that.

i run both a external and internal stinger hotpipe from redline, and both provide very similar performance.

We've done extensive dyno testing with internal and external stingers. If anything , an internal stinger adds to power. An internal stinger with a water injected stinger can muffler is very quiet. We get below 85 dB with a cowled, rubber mounted installation.
