PICS!!! Ballantine

newton540 created the topic: PICS!!! Ballantine

Alright im pretty pumped it has been shipped to me I should have it tommorow. I have a question, I live in Cleveland and clearly it is very cold out BUT I know I am goign to be eager to run the boat. Will it hurt anything (other then frozen fingers) to take this out and run it? Or is it stupid to do since I am relatively new to this....I hope the pics uploaded..

Probably the biggest problem you may have running it when it is so cold out (other than your own comfort and peril) is that the motor will be running cold. Not the worst thing in the world if your only going to be out for a quick splash and a dozen laps here and there. But to make a habbit of it might reduce the life of the motor somewhat (similar to running a car motor with no thermostat).

Boat looks to be in great condition and for the $$ looks a very good buy.

Ensure you have sufficient floatation in the hull and hatch. You dont want to loose either in the pond. Also ensure you have a safe/effective means of recovery if the boat should stall in the pond. If your using a raft certainly consider a preserver of some kind should you end up swimming as cold water will drown you in about 20 yards (and no boat is worth dieing for) - not tryign to sound dramatic but safety should be reinforced if you are new to this.

You might test fire her at home before heading to the lake to make sure all is in order. Just fire it for 30-60 seconds dry. If you run longer ensure you have a water line and bucket for cooling water flow.

I am sure you will be happy with her (once you get her started). It is a nice styled hull with plenty of power.

Won't hurt a thing to run in the cold! I've ran where ice built up on the back of the boat. I remember a couple years ago the guys in the Netherlands were dodging chunks of ice on thier pond, and a couple guys didn't do very well!

You have a nice piece of RC boatin history there with one of Rich's boats, one of the coolest guys you could ever know.

I have heard nothing but great things abour Rich's boats and I am glad I was lucky enough to find it, being new to boats (I have been into gas 1/5 trucks) I am trying to piece it back together now that I finally got it! At the risk of sounding like an idiot, the gas tank is mounted up near the bow, there is a fuel line with a T on it, one going to the carb and one going to a capped end. My question is how the hell do I get the fuel into the tank! Through the capped end of the fuel line? Am I missing something? Please help.... Thanks guys.

Yes, the capped T is where you would fill it, this is assuming there's a vent line somewhere.

Ok, I am assuming there is a vent line, so just connect something to that capped line and start pumping the fuel in?
