Sprint boats and jet drive.... MHZUSA

nwnitro created the topic: Sprint boats and jet drive.... MHZUSA

Here in the NW we have one of the largest group of 'Sprint' boaters in the USA, and they are growing rapidly. We plan on going to several of their events this year and Demo some of our large gas RC boats. I'm looking for some feedback on the MHZUSA products, in general how is their service? Do they have product in stock? If items are pre-order status how long does it take to get? They have a Sprint boat hull and a jet drive........ does anyone have any feedback on these?
I'd really like to try the jet drive and see what kind of thrust from a stock zenoah 260pum?
NW Nitro RC hobbies here in the Puget Sound area is trying to promote some new RC boating *events and 'Sprint' boat racing and Drag boats look like they would be lots of fun.
Thx for any feedback.....

*In the spirit of true offshore powerboat racing NW Nitro RC Hobbies will be hosting and
sponsoring several different RC boating events during 2008. Our goal is to provide a venue
where the large gas powered boats that emulate the full scale offshore racers can get
together for fun and racing.

Raft ups(shootouts)….. Poker runs….. And Enduro races are the type of events we are planning.

What is a raft up(shootout)? …. This is an event where lots of boaters gather together on a large body of water (lake or reservoir)
Then boats make speed runs or challenge race each other. Race teams and boat manufacturers use these events to show off their
boats, do some testing and tuning and give sponsors rides and photo ops…. Lots of partying goes on also.
Our RC ‘Raft up’/ Shootout’… will be a gtg where we can test and tune, do some speed runs against our radar gun and challenge
each other to some kind of race, straightaway run, clutch boat drags etc., plus do a BBQ or something fun also. All RC boaters are
welcome, nitro, gas, electric,……. Fun for all!

Poker run….. Same as above only everyone gets the opportunity to run a designated course and collect a playing card(s) with high card(best hand) winning a prize. Gas boats only for this event, Catts and Monos no hydros.

Enduro race….. timed event over an irregular course where the boat that completes the most laps wins. All hull and engine classes run together. Gas boats only for this event, Catts and Monos no hydros.
Gas boats over 40” long with 20cc or larger ‘weedeater’ type motors…..(mono and Catt hulls) that’s about it for rules.

Check our website end of March for more info. And schedule of events;(website update in progress) NWNITRORCHOBBIES.COM

If items are pre-order status how long does it take to get? Longest for me was 6 months. Other orders have been cancelled.

They have a Sprint boat hull and a jet drive........ does anyone have any feedback on these? The jet is not bad though not a real jet impellor - a weak cast aluminum propeller. No intake grate so you will loose blades with small debris. They just recently copied the adjustable trim on the swashdrive jet pump. It is a shame they did not copy more about it (like stainless steel inpellor etc etc).

If you want a quality performance pump then consider a Swashdrive pump. Built to last and outperforms the MH$ pump any day.

I have some pics showing some of the MH$ pumps and Swashdrive boat/pump here for your review. imageevent.com/justaddwata/morerc/info/jets

Try to keep it clean guys...I don't want to have to keep editing posts because of bashing. I realize and respect that everyone has their opinions, but keep it respectful. :-[

I for one have not dealt with MHZ that many times, but the times I have I had good service and good communication. JMO.

I hope you have liability insurance that will cover your activities. If your group are NAMBA members they MUST abide by NAMBA safety rules for coverage. There have been several serious injuries as well as two deaths from model boating activities in the past few years. Some occurred in the Pacific Northwest. One of the most important NAMBA safety rules is that NO people, domestic animals, or full sized boats can share the water with models. Another is that no alcohol and/or intoxicating drugs may be used while operating a model boat. NAMBA has been very lucky that their members are safety conscious and have only had one incident that I know of in our area.

While playing with SQUIRT pumps for gas engine size models, found IMO the only game in town is the Australian built SWASH DRIVE unit !!
The MHZ unit is a chintzy toy by comparison.

I built my sprint boat in 1999, check this: www.andrenalin.de/jetboat-e.htm
This time there was no other jetpump on the market.

I loved this boat. It was not the fastest, but 1999 there was also no 260 on the market and the experiences with modified engines were not the same as today. This boat was an excellent rough water play boat. Smooth water conditions were a no-go. But choppy water from teh big ships or really rough wind were fun. I never flipped the boat. Surfing the waves, running thru them and jumping over them was a big fun.

With the knowledge from today and a pump like the swashdirve it must be a super project to build one of these boats again...

So... I was wondering how to run some kind of 'Sprint' boat race at some of our 'raft-ups' fun events; and I came up with this idea......
why not just use three colored buoys.... red must be passed on port(left) side, green must be passed on starboard(right) and white require a 360' around buoy (right or left drivers choice).
I think ten to twelve buoys should make for a decent run and you could even have it set up where you have to do a 180 at one end and come back through the course from the opposite direction. I'm a fan of clutch boats, and a standing start for this type of event. Another plus is all you need is a stopwatch or two to time each run. For some real excitement you could have the top three qualifiers run head to head for a final, that drag/sprint to the first buoy would be fun!
I'm thinking Sprint boats here but any 'clutch' boat hull type would work... just needs to be set up to turn well in both directions. What do you think? Any other ideas..... :)
