Advice for buying a boat

Sapes created the topic: Advice for buying a boat

Hello. I'm new to rc boating, but not new to rc. I have a Traxxas revo which I have invested alot of time and money into. My girlfriend recently surprised me with a Traxxas Nitro Vee and now I'm hooked, but i want bigger and faster. From what I have been able to find on the net I have narrowed it done to the Pro Boats Shockwave 55 ($1000), and Aquacraft Rio 51($700). There is only one thing I like better about the shockwave , other than the extra 4 inchs, is the water pump. Does anyone know if the water pump by Pro Boats, which can be bought at horizon hobby, be used on a Rio 51 engine a Fuji-Imvac BT-28. Is the Shockwave worth the extra $300? Is it that much better the the Rio 51 .Is there another boat I should be looking at? I think Aeromarine and Bonzi are out of my league. Thanks for your advice

In the price range you are talking about, I would strongly suggest looking at the Warehouse Hobbies lineup. For the money, they will be superior to the 2 you mentioned. Call Tony and tell him what you are looking for and he will set you up with a good boat! Don't forget to mention who sent you! I strongly support the Warehouse Hobbies boats for the beginners/sport boaters. :)

Thanks fo the advice. I had not seen that site before. I want the Magnum 57, but the RTR exceeds my $1000 limit I had set for myself. I'm really contemplating getting the kit version, however I might not get a chance to run it this summer. I'm home for only 8 days a month. I work in a different province. I'll try calling Tony tomorrow and see what he has to say. Thanks again

I did a review on the Magnum 57...it's a real nice boat and a blast to drive. You can get other models for under $1000 from them though. One thing to keep in mind for the 57 is the shipping costs...if memory serves me correctly it cost me about $150 shipping to get it into Canada! The 48\" hulls would be a lot cheaper for shipping. Tell Tony I said hi! :)

Well I've ordered a yellow Magnum 57, kit version. I got the M5 motor upgrade. I can't wait. I must have read every word on the WHH website, and watched every Magnum 57 video on youtube a 100 times now. I'm heading to the cabin on on the 27th of June (I'm out of town working till then). I won't be able to open the box till I'm at the cabin, so the boat won't be assembled when I get there. I hope the assembly isn't to difficult or take to long. I'm hoping it only takes me 1 day to assemble. The website says 8 hours, and Pam at WHH says 5. I'm not new to RC, but this is the first kit I've purchased; always bought RTR. Also I needed a new radio, so I put a DX3R on hold. The next day I read all over the net how terrible the spektrum radios are for boats. So I changed my order to a Futaba 3PK. I want a radio for both road and water. I've been trying to find a boat club near home (Winnipeg, Manitoba), or near the cabin (Kenora, Ontario). No luck yet. I don't think there is one. I'll post some pics after that weekend of my new sweet boat. Later.

Congrats on your purchase! I am sure you will love that boat! As for clubs in Kenora, I don't know of any. The only clubs I know if in Ontario are down south...London, Collingwood, etc... I am in the North Bay area and nothing near here.

Kudos on the buy. Pay close attention to the details of the assembly. RUSS
