Prop polishing

wkmacy created the topic: Prop polishing

In the How-To section the proprietor of Voodoo Props mentions using 2 inch soft lip abrasive disks for smoothing/polishing the concave surfaces of prop blades. Can anyone tell me where to obtain these abrasive disks and what make/model they are? All I can find searching a number of usual suspects such as McMaster Carr are the twist-on ScotchBrite disks which are not the same.

Thanks, Bill

I think by soft lip he is refering to the durometer of the arbor that the disc screws onto. www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRIT?...87&PMT4NO=0 You can get Hard, Medium, Soft and Etc arborswhich flex diferently to support the disc.

I actually found the polishing pads I think the author referred to. They are made by \"Standard Abrasive\" and can be found at MSC. I received 6 medium ones the other day. See: www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/GSDRVSM...000000058942258. They work fine too! :)

I use an angle grinder with a 3M 2SFN wheel with an adapter on it.I would think they would make something smaller for the dremel etc. I like these wheels as they dont gouge or leave deep scratches in the prop. I clean them up and balance with this wheel then go to the rag wheel for a polish if you want, I dont bother with the polish anymore as the satin finish is good enough.

I use a Dynabrade Dynafile. Its expensive but it takes off material fast and you can get into tight places. A file, 1000grit wet sanding and buffing gets them nice.
