prop sizes

seahawkwa created the topic: prop sizes

guys im trying to work out some props to get . ive been told to get a 7016/2blade and yes this prop every one says is good . but ive also been told to get a 6719/2blade
this is where the confusion starts one shop says it is no good for my use. and i should get a 7015/2 blade and 7016/2 blade. then the next shop i talk to says to get a 6717/3 blade.
the 7016 /2blade seems like to most common prop but what is a nother good prop to use for my set up. i was going to go with the propshop props .
boat is a 50 inch cat hull (expresscraft style ).
motor is going to be in this hull a 26mod zenoah &tuned pipe.
so what props would i be best of experamenting with . i will be using the 7016/2 for shore but what other props can or would work on this platform. as im not wanting to buy more props that arent neaded or suited to my use.........

all info good or bad is great .
thanks..B)

At 50 inchs your cat is a LOT of boat to push with a single Zenoah 260.
While that is not really any big deal, whats the issue here is getting prop slip to a minimum so engine you do have gets hooked up to the water with the highest degree of efficiency.

For one the 7016/2 prop is an EXCELLENT cat prop, While the 6717/3 can work well in lighter boats or ones that air out well, otherwise they slip a lot.

** When you start dealing with BIG hulls and smaller engines you can get equal or better performance going to BIGGER diameter but shallower pitch props.

A 7016/2 in the prop box is always a good thing either way :woohoo:

My suggestion would be to get a Modified ABC 3014/2 that has had the tongues cut back @ 1/4 to 3/8 inch. These props work REALLY well run fairly shallow in cats because at 75mm diameter there slip is minimal with efficiency being very high.

chers guys for your feed back all feedback good or bad is great its the only way to work out if your ging downt the nice easy road or taking the old boggy road and getting stuck. with somthing no good at all.

ive talked to one of the good boat guys about trying some props and ive just orded a 7015/2 for now for tuning . and going to get a 7016/2 also . and go from that starting point.

rumbum if taken note of how you only were getting 44mph for a 7016/2 and wow thats sound realy to be holding it back was that the propshop prop . or was it on a realy small lake and motor not getting up onto the pipe. as guys over here have told me there getting great speed out of that size when set up for them..
well im gessing like thay say the prop that works on one boat might not work on the nezxt boat. and its all try it till it works . and scott now i know why you say you have a box or suitcase full of props... i cant wait to also lurn the art i=of shaping props to make them work even better . ive been checking out some sites shouing all the difrent tricks there are to do to a prop to make them realy work more then to just look good.
