Problem Balancing

Sapes created the topic: Problem Balancing

Hey guys I having some trouble balancing a prop. This is my first attempt and assume I'm doing something wrong. When I spin the prop, it comes to a stop then counter spins a little bit (around 1 rotation)every time. Is this normal? Also it never does the same thing twice. One time I'll spin it, and it will stop at balanced. I'll spin it again right away and one blade will stop heavy? I don't know if it's truly balanced. Shouldn't it spin in one direction and give the same reading everytime? I'm pretty sure it's not the balancer because i got one that alot of guys on the site use and said was a great balancer. Thanks

If you are using a magnetic balancer you can expect it to do as you described (turn one direction then come back in the other). That's not a problem. What you want to look for is if it always stops at the same point (ex: if it's always the same blade ending up low). If it always stops in a different position you are good to go! Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. I'm good to go then! I dinged an already balanced prop and just tweeked it to get it back. Not to mention I smashed my fiberglass hull pretty good too. I'm having a fiberglass genius fix it for me, and ordered a new hull for they had one they wanted to sell for a hundred bucks off. Not the color I wanted, white, but couldn't refuse the deal. Thanks again for your help Marc. You've beed a huge resource in my new RC boating obsession.

Another thing I like to do just to validate, is once the prop stops turning I hold the balancer shaft and slightly rotate the prop on it and check it again...sometimes it always stops in same location just because of the magnets' force on the shaft...this is a way to confirm.

Yep, your right on that one Mark, I normally spin/rotate the shaft in the prop 180* and double check. Thats fussy toolmakers for you.
