Something to think about???? Will it work?

Radamus created the topic: Something to think about???? Will it work?

[file] OK, this thought came to me for a couple reasons....don't remember them though. Not really, keeping to myself. Wonder if anyone can see any advantages at all? or would it work at all?
I seriously don't know :woohoo:

Can clearly see that that modification would not be an improvement on the previous modification done.B)

In an application where the strut is ABOVE the water, Say a cat ... don's see why not.

If the water being displaced by the strut behind the prop could or would change the steering control like a strutter rudder does? then a bad idea IMO.

I could see the prop killing the tapered nose of the strut unless a spacer was used. The prop hub and nose of the strut would wear and possibly fail???? Certainly would cause drag behind the prop unless the strut was completely out of the water (as Scott said) or some how tapered not to interfere with direction of prop thrust and additional drag.... interesting concept....

Here is why I thought of it. I'm building this R42 and guys are having success with putting the strut under the boat. So, why couldn't I mount my strut normally and put the prop in front of it just in case I don't like it, and so I can setup my box and hardware like I normally would? also, you'ld never lose a prop!
I use collet only so there are no wear issues. I half way slapped this together to get a visual of my idea, it's not exactly how it would be clearance wise. Yes, it would only make sense on a cat imo because the CL of the shaft is going to be 1/2-5/8 above the sponsons anyway but like Scott said, what is happening with the water coming off the prop? what effect would it have if any?
I wold like to try it, I won't on this project build but I'd like to know and I have a few cats so I may try it on one in the name of science!

Scott, I never ran a strudder, I always thought it was a bad idea but the rudder was in the water and having enormous pressure applied to it from the prop thrust. I'm thinking this could be different but won't know until it's tried.

Len,

I'm curious...give it a try!!! I am going to be setting up another Conquest with the reverse strut like the one I reviewed...works awesome...this could be an alternative that would keep strut adjustments simpler!
