Couple of videos of a Test 'n Tune in San Antonio

First attempt by me to shoot any r/c boats. I've shot most every other kind of r/c activity so I loaded up and went to the pond in San Antonio Tx to try my hand at it. The footage came out pretty good. A little dark that day which made the water look kinda crappy but not bad overall.

Now that I know where the local groups are I'll be shooting a lot more gas boats. Might have to build one myself. The thunderboat class reminds me of the 60's and the Miss Bardahl boat. I really loved watching that boat and you didn't see it much on TV back then. Maybe once a year on ABC Sports. I always liked the secret agent on the tail.

Hey, I am having some problems with the videos, but got about half through the first one then got disconnected from the server. Good Job. Problem might be from my end but not sure. Where is this pond? I live in Cedar Park, north of Austin, but work in Austin. Did a project at Randolph couple of years back, but never heard of a boat racing pond.
I have a home designed and built shovelnose that has motor, drive train and radio intact but the hull has never been painted. Been in a box ever since getting married in 1983. The engine is a K&B 3.5cc inboard, never been run. I built some of the steerage, but all running gear is store bought. Have photos but will need to figure out how to post.

That sometimes happens so I always put up a download link. My server doesn't have a real media server. If more than 10 try and view weird stuff happens. The download version is larger 872x480 vs 640x480 for the embedded vid.

Ponds you have 3 to choose from. One in Round Rock one in San Antonio and one in the DFW area. The pond in SA is actually in Universal City over by Randolph AFB. You get off 1604 onto Kittyhawk and then turn rt onto Universal City Blvd. Go on down until you get to a spot where they are working on the road and there are cones in the middle separating the lanes. There are a few buildings pretty new along that road behind one of them is the pond. Right before you get to Byrd road. If you get to that road look over your right shoulder and you should see the pond. Friendly bunch you will have a good time. Plenty of people to help you out. There is another pond in Round Rock over by Dell Diamond. I haven't been to that one yet. Those guys hang out on Jim's boat dock forum. Look for Stroker Marine or Bpracing. They put their phone numbers in my post about racing boats in Tx on that forum. The DFW pond I'm still looking for. I know it exists but I haven't ran across it yet.

Also sometimes on the embedded vids they will freeze and go into buffering mode. Just wait a bit and they will start up. If you connection is slow it will happen a lot. Once it has played through all the way you can watch it without interrpution because it has a copy on your computer. When mine starts doing that I just turn down the sound wait until it plays through then actually watch it. All my videos 102 of them at this time are on youtube too. www.youtube.com/griz11 By the way I was married in 82 :) Just celebrated here recently. The guys in SA told me they are there every Sunday commending around noon.

Plenty more to come. I'm taking a break from land based r/c. After 100 videos I'm burned out on it. And next year I'm going to all the drag boat races because I'll have photo credentials waiting for me at all of them. Houston is coming up and I'll be there on Saturday to video the proceedings. Almost went to the Gas Nats. Had I found the pond and met up with the guys a little sooner I would have gone to that one. But with no time to save up some money I just couldn't make it this year. I upgraded all my video stuff earlier this year. I pay cash or I don't buy so that took awhile to save for. Canon XL2 camera with Rode SVM microphone and a killer quad core computer and pro level software to edit and produce videos with. Now all the expenses I have to pursue my hobby is buying tape. And I get that in bulk at really low cost too. I go out every weekend my health issues will allow. I've been pretty good lately. As long as I rest up during the week anyways :) I have 4 cameras I can use to video stuff. I'm hoping that when I go to Houston I can use a few more cameras. This pond is too grown up around to do much although I did spot a small tree I could get one of my magic arms clamped around to hold a camera. I'll take that stuff next time.

Thanks Griz. And by the way, I did finally figure out the video issues, and have really enjoyed watching them. You definitely have a talent for that.

I am going to try to post a picture of my boat, although it is in rough stage of finishing. I guess not bad for first time, and scratch built at that.

All the folks at work are screaming for me to get er running and throw it in the pond...yeah. Problem, no pond here in Austin that I can find...everything is so darn sound sensitive.

Will try to hit the place in Round Rock. I have heard about it from someone else, but they could not give me definitive directions. Dell Diamond I know.

Old Settler Pond near Dell Diamond. If you do a mapquest it will show up. I doubt anyone will be there this weekend though. Stroker is at the Gas Nats and Bill told me he was going to San Antonio this weekend. I'm out of money for the month so I'll be staying home this weekend.
