COLEMAN FUEL

Procat created the topic: COLEMAN FUEL

THE SUBJECT OF RUNNING COLEMAN FUEL HAS BEEN COMING UP MORE AND MORE, AT OUR CLUB MEETING TODAY SOMEONE SAID THAT THE DIFFERENCE IN THE OCTANE RATING COMPARED TO PUMP GAS 87 OCTANE DOES NOT SHOW UP AS A PROFORMANCE LOSS IN POWER (EVEN IN DYNO TESTS?) I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE - I KNOW THE PLUS FROM USING COLEMAN FUEL - WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK - GOT TO BE DOWN ON POWER?

There isnt a power disadvantage that I am aware of, I have used over 50 gallons of it over the last few years. The biggest drawback is the price of it............ I use it in all my boats, and my boats run with the best of them..

Thanks for the info Mike - In our next district meeting it will be brought up for a vote on weather on not to allow it to be used for racing, as of now I think NAMBA doesn't let you use it, I thought the difference in octane would be a loss of speed

Coleman fuel is so expensive here, it makes gas seem very economical! Could probably get VP for about the same price. :)

Allowing the Coleman fuel for racing would be good for the guys that like to use it for obvious reasons (primarily smell or lack of). Keeping the rules enforced will only get more and more difficult though. Nothing wrong with change for improvement though. :)

It is around 7 dollars here now as well. I like the lack of smell, easy starting, no carb problems etc.
We ran it at the gas nats in 2006 and they called it a "non issue". I agree it needs to be approved as there are things in regular gas besides alcohol that arent good to be exposed to. I have 10 gallons or so on the shelf tightly capped, shelf life is years in that condition.
I have a few gallons of vp2 left over as the coleman was as good as or a touch better in my rigger. I used to run vp and then at the end of the day run a tank of coleman to clean out the system, and that last run was a touch faster at the end of the day. I would like to check into where its refined or canned and possibly get it in a 55 gallon drum. The high oil prices are what drove the price up, but it wil be quite awhile before it goes back down as most suppliers stocked up at the higher price this time around.

Used it for quite a few years now, tho at a 50/50 with regular grade.

NAMBA use is LEGAL :woohoo:

It does actually INCREASE your power because of the faster burning. The BTU's produced during combustion are actually higher, waist unburnt fuel is less going out into EX system, so it runs cooler.
All a plus ..... Note: We only are using it in the LOW COMPRESSION Zenoahs ... Do Not use it in a QD or J&G type racing motor !!

What about pro-mod Zenoahs, are they still considered low compression? I have been thinking of switching over, running mod RCMK's and Zenoahs, but wasn't sure......

Any and ALL Zenoahs it is fine. The RCMK if they have comparable combustion chamber size will be fine as well IMO.
