Some one has probably tried this before but I was thinking of a flat bottom hull where the front was the same as a crackerbox style hull but the rear was recessed from just behind the lowest point of the hull to form a cat style rear. I tried to do a rough pic to explain what I mean. Just thought it would help it get on the plane easier but have less wet area at speed. Any thoughts?

I think the reason we don't see much of that type of design (with ride pads and steps etc) is that it makes the boats illegal in mono classes and they thus become classified as Hydros and they simply cannot compete against hydros. So in short the stepped monos/modified bottom monos are only good to those that will not race them.
