How we do it down south!!!

gforce created the topic: How we do it down south!!!

Here are a few links check'em out. The first is a vid of my Aeromarine avenger cat w/ Quickdraw. I have the motor mounted all the way forward as far as it will go. The Quickdraw has way to much power for this hull. You cant mount the engine far enough forward to keep the bow down at speed. Heres what happens!! The next vid was shot on the lake okeechobee rim canal about a year ago.

Video #1 .... If your cat wheelies once under way when you punch it, You have the wrong prop !! and one that does not have enough lift.

please keep it comming!!! I need the advice. I cant keep the thing in the water. I cant enjoy the thing because its always blowing over. I have the engine as far forward as it can go and still its real light in the bow. I'm using a 6717/3. I also have a 6518/3 and a 7016/2. What do you think would work best?

Ok I took some of your guys advice and lifted the strut and went with a differant prop. The boat ran much more level and didnt seem as filghty down the streight. The issue I am having is that when I am comming out of the turns the boat is so torquey that it wants to take flight. My best pass this weekend was 59.2. I think that aint bad for a tank like the Avenger. some more tuning and we might get a bit more speed. Thanks for the tips...

Bro,

It looked to me like you have too much positive angle in your strut. I think if you take some out you will be fine.

show some pictures of the boat... how low do you have the motor in the boat? IMO an Avenger/Conquest really needs a bellypan to get the CG low enough in the boat that id does not want to be a flightly boat at big speeds.

If you are trying to get big speeds...you are going about using the wrong props. 6518/3, 6717/3 are good oval props.. but nowhere near the speed potential of some of the proven 2 blades go as far as speed (h50, 2716/2, 1475/MW3, etc.)

I cant adjust the angle of the strut. The solid part of the shaft extends beyond the strut. I cant bend solid metal. How do I get a shaft with a shorter solid end? The engine is as low in the boat as it can go. I had to grind away some of the case to get it that low. I think it mostly props being the issue. Thanks for the help...

Most welded shafts have about the same length stub shaft. Next time, move the drivedog further down the shaft. I always set all mine so the end of the hub on prop just starts going over the threads. This also keeps the welded area where the stubshaft and flexshaft are connected supported by the strut bushing.
