Pipe questions

Seatard created the topic: Pipe questions

I've got a 50" Bonzi with a race ported zen that I'm gettin to run pretty good with a wet tuned pipe. I'm not sure who's pipe it is, it came with the boat when I got it (used ). I was wondering if a dry tuned pipe would give me more speed or possiblly a 2" band for some mid speed driveability. Seems like I have plow & fly with no inbetween. Thoughts???

Yes in the end a dry pipe system will give the best top performance. There are many good choice pipes out there, many of which are showcased on this site. Typically the "no-band" pipes are a little more peaky with best top-end, while the "band" pipes tend to offer a broader powerband at the expense of a little bit of top-end. That's the theory behind it! :) I have had great performance from either type...put the right combo together and you're in business. :)

Now I know a dry pipe is going to be louder but from what I understand is that you can put on a silencer or a cooper muffler to reduce noise? How well do these device's work & what affect on performance is there ?

Stinger mufflers like the T-mod and Cooper are pretty good at keeping the noise down and have little to no effect on performance. You can also go with dry pipes with internal stingers...in many cases these are as quiet as the regular ones with stinger mufflers. To get even more quiet add a stinger muffler onto a pipe with the internal stinger! Another option is the Jeroen quiet pipe...you can get the aluminum version now from Voodoo Props...these are VERY quiet!

or to really get it quiet, run a internal stinger pipe w/ extended T-mod muffler thats water injected.
