Heres a vid of the engines running. The word on the street is that this combo really never performed as well as it could have. Some people say the cg was off on the QD boats and some people say that the boat is just way to heavy and because of the power of the twin qd's the drivetrain suffers. Its said that you really cant extract all the power out of these engines because the flex shafts cant handle the power and weight of the boat. So the question is do I remove the standard rotation engine and mount that is a smaller cat? Then rerig the 84 with one 70cc twin. If I do that then I can have a fast smaller cat that I can use at the lake every weekend and have a huge v that can still cruise the lake looking and sounding pretty. In any case I'm going to need a trailer for this boat and I can hardly fit it in the house. I'm interested in hearing what you guys think. Thanks have a great weekend and be careful at the lake this weekend. GG

That boat would haul with just one of those twins in there. Would be lighter with one and might actually go faster with one because of the weight. A lot of fullsize boats will actually go faster with a smaller small block engine than a big block engine which puts out more power, reason being... weight. The Boat will be a lot easier to work on, tune and etc with one motor.

I am far from an expert on these setups but you might want to look into running one motor using a gearbox setup. The gearbox would take the power from one motor and split it into two ouputs for 2 outdrives. You can get them in counter-rotating also. The gearboxes usually put out more rpm at the ouput end than the motor spins rpm wise so you can use smaller props which are esier on the flex cables.

Shurely is and awsome setup that you got a good deal on.

I thought about the gearbox thing and twin scale #6 drives. Its pricey but looks cool and could work.

Yeah those scale geared merc relica drives are cool but they are expensive as anything.

With a gearbox like this 206.206.85.209/xtdoc/Details.a...70&store=mhzusa You could probably use the drives you already have.

Hey guys,
I'm a complete freak when it comes to researching my boatbuilds. Currently I've got a 69" MHZ hull I'm building with the single inline twin, gearbox, and dual S6 drives. It is a tried and tested setup because of the hp/rpm/weight ratio.

One thing to consider. The gearbox is 33% geared up and the drives are also geared up.....can't remember the amount though. The geared drives are very scale and have to be run that way. There are a hundred stories all over the net about guys grenading these drives. So many stories I almost bagged the idea. But after talking to a good friend who has a set that has worked flawlessly for years.

So if top speed is your biggest goal stay away from these drives. The internal gears arejust to small for big modifieds. And replacement parts are next to unobtainable. :( Also the guy at MHZ says they are re-tooling the casts for the drives and has no idea on a ship date.

Found both mine+gerabox all new on rcuniverse. All were new and saved me quite a few bills. Not trying to discourage you in anyway.....just sharing experience!

Good luck and keep us posted!
