Zippkits Outboard Tunnel

need4speed created the topic: Zippkits Outboard Tunnel

 hello all,

just curious as to whether or not anyone has built one of the new zippkits illusion outboard tunnel hulls. i'm sure in some circuits it will be a huge hit this year. i'd like to know if the build and quality are decent. i think the price is great but i've yet to actually piece together a wooden hull. the lawless drives look absolutely killer. do they perform well?? i would appreciate any info on the subject. also, i'd like to say MGB ROCKS!! any plans for a review of this tunnel sometime soon?? keep up the great work MGB. peace.

Mine should have shipped today. Also curious about others build experiences and on the water performance.

Matt Gunn has been involved in the testing of the prototypes...I hope he will chime in here if he can. It's a great looking tunnel!

Its an awesome boat, but like most tunnels, takes a little tuning to get it running right. From the beginning, Joe at Zipp Kits told me to set it up like a cat...meaning, get the prop up and out the water. Once I finally did that I saw an immediate increase in speeds from mid 40's to upper 50's
Its fast and stable. turning requires a slight blip of the throttle to drop the nose and get the hull back in the water. Theres really not much hull touching the water when its "flying" down the straights so if you turn while running at this attitude, it will just start to drift in the direction instead of turn. Planting the nose is key.

Joe sent me this hull built for testing so I didnt do anything but paint and add parts.
Ive built two of his other kits and I can say they are relatively easy

Couple of questions. What do you think a good starting point would be prop wise if running a mod 260? Also, do you think it would stay on the water with a QD25HT?

6717/3 is a great prop. Ive done most of my testing w/ it.

Dont know about the Quickdraw, but Im sure it will fly w/ one on there.
