boat wants to stall in the corner

stalling on the corner

Ive got a 42 cat with a bonzi 2 mod im running the stock 644 carb with a rtc wet pipe and a 2716 prop from chris at dasboata. The boat had two bench tests with water to set it up to run with no probs the maiden run was a good one on and off on the gas for 700mls of fuel and gps at 43.3hr. I then put a straight header and wet pipe and it ran very high the pipe was set at 12.5inch on the pipe thats what i was told to set it at by bonzi needless to say the run was not a good one so i put it all back to the way it was on the first run the problem im having is it runs good on the the startup and good on the straghts but once and awhile it wonts to stall in the corner to my right all the time but not on the left ya go figure im just wondering if you might give me so info on what it mite be i thought it was my fuel line from the bag was to short so i put a longer one on but no luck it mite be because its modded and needs to run more faster in the corner with out dropping the revs as much i dont no i also tried to make it more rich but it still wants to stall at times.
has anyone had this problem any ifo would be great

A 2716 is a LOT of prop for a Cat, some can use them maybe you can too ?

That said however, in chasing down running problems I would prop down some allowing engine to NOT get so loaded down in the corners.
(Cats are notorious for loading up the engine while cornering)

have an engine running at full speed ALL the time will be far easier to chase down running issues. Tho yours I would suspect is just Too Much prop ?

Thanks Scott
Ive tried three other props as well 6717-3 reduced and another
6717 that has the rounded corners and reduced even smaller come to think about it it did seem to run a bit better but the same thing was still happening of and on only in thr corner or just when pulling out on throttle.

I agree with Scott. Overloading in the turns, or possibly getting really hot and it's showing when it needs the most power...in the turns.

Try raising the strut and run the smallest 6717/3 you have. Also try running it without the cowl. Make sure your strut is set flat, or worse case with a little bit of positive in it. (prop end slightly up) You can also kicking back the rudder a little bit. Sometimes this helps free up the front of a cat in turns.

Keep us posted.

* assuming you have correct carburetor settings and no air leaks at seals, base, cyl and carb iso block.

Thanks Marc
I have been running the boat with no cowl from the start the motor has been running around 125deg to145. Ive checked for leaks on carb and base but nothing there.I just got off the phone with toxic al and he seems to think that there is water splashing around in the hull this makes total sence seeing that it is very bouncy on the front i have made rudder adjustments to correct some of this but mite need to try running with cowl to see if its water in the hull. What do you guys think?

Always a good idea to run with and without cowl when troubleshooting...it often narrows it down a lot. Give it a shot and keep us posted.
