Rudder depth for mono?

jjsmooth created the topic: Rudder depth for mono?

I have a zipp easy vee and think my rudder is too deep. What would be a ballpark depth? Also would it shimmy side to side less in turbulence with just one turn fin?
Thanks for any suggestions.

If you don't get both fins perfectly aligned it will do some weird stuff. I preferred running mine with just one fin (starboard) side after much testing. The boat does tend to chine walk a bit at high speeds, since it is a high lift design, but it handles very well despite that. It's really not a problem most of the time.

I ran my rudder full length... can't really remember exactly how deep, but I'd say about 2.5 to 3" below the drive.

Turn fins are only in the water in a turn so the shimmying side to side can only be sorted out by adjusting the strut depth and also trying different props.Monos do tend to chine walk when theyre running on the edge though.I found my vee did it a lot with a 470 prop but i switched to a 6717/3 and it sorted it out, boat was slower on take off but smoother in turns and top end was faster.
