Post a pic if you can. Not sure I understand completely. Is your header port lower than the tank?

no the tank and header port are about the same hight,it comes out of the exhaust port where the header slips on to at the motor

I have the same problem with my nitro boats (the couple I have left) if gravity takes over and runs the fuel out of the tank, into the carb, the sleeve/crankcase, and draining out the exhaust. Most times it could be that the tank is higher than the motor, back pressure, a bad tank setup, or what ever. I usually clip the fuel line (close it off) until I'm ready to start it, and then I let a little fuel thru and then pinch off the line with my fingers while I start it. Otherwise - I have the same mess to clean up that you do, and starting is impossible with a flooded motor. Once the motor is running and the needle is set properly; mine run fine, I just have to remember to clamp off the fuel line when I bring the boat in. Gas is sooooo much easier!!!

On a lot of nitro boats, the goal is to get the tank higher or at least close to the same height as the carburetor to help get fuel to the carb. Exhaust pressure alone often isn't enough to ensure proper fuel delivery and so the tank is installed a bit higher. We don't do this with gas boats because the carburetors we use have their own internal pump, unlike most of the nitro carburetors.

* as suggested, just pinch the fuel line, it is common practice with nitros.
